For decades, the job of determining the value of property in Brownstown was left to Wayne County officials. But in February 1995, local officials decided it was time for Brownstown to do its own property assessment and hired Susan Iott to do just that.

A level III Certified State Assessor and Personal Property Examiner, Iott is responsible for calculating the taxable value of all of the property in Brownstown. The treasurer's department then uses those figures to calculate property taxes.

In addition to her normal assessing responsibilities, Iott has been conducting a complete update of the property record cards for all township properties.

Iott also maintains and updates the Tax Management Program, which produces the tax rolls and bills for the township. The department processes all transfers and homestead affidavits and records land splits in accordance with the Land Division Act.

About our Assessor

In 1995 the Township hired Susan Iott to determine the value of property in Brownstown Township, that for decades had been contracted to Wayne County Equalization officials.

With the construction growth of both the residential and commercial/industrial properties in the township it made sense to have a staff assessor to handle the growing needs of its property owners.

A Level III Certified State Assessor and Personal Property Examiner, Iott is responsible for calculating the taxable value of all the property in Brownstown. These figures are then used to calculate the property taxes. In addition to her normal assessing responsibilities, Iott continues the completion of the update of all property record cards for all township properties. The department's computer program provides sketches of property improvements and digital photographs for enhanced interdepartmental information, as well as public reference material. The department also processes all transfer and principle residence exemption affidavits, as well as maintain the lot split records for compliance of the Land Division Act.

Iott also maintains and updates the Tax Management Program which produces the tax rolls and bills for the township. Susan supervises the township network servers and computer maintenance. A graduate of Siena Heights College, Iott holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and management and has completed all educational requirements for a Level IV certification.
