ABSENTEE BALLOTS

APPLICATIONS FOR ABSENTEE VOTER BALLOTS are now available from the Office of the Township Clerk, 21313 Telegraph, for qualified electors who are: 60 years of age or older; expect to be absent from the community in which they are registered for the entire time the polls are open on election day; physically unable to attend the polls without the assistance of another; cannot attend the polls because of tenets of their religion; have been appointed an election precinct inspector in a precinct other than the precinct where they reside; or cannot attend the polls because they are confined to jail awaiting arraignment or trial; for the SPECIAL ELECTION which will be voted on:

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2017

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Clerk’s Office will be open on SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. which is the deadline for acceptance of Absentee Ballot Applications to be voted outside of the Clerk’s Office, in accordance with section 168.759 of the Michigan Compiled Law.

EMERGENCY ABSENT VOTER APPLICATIONS will be issued to any registered elector at any time prior to 4:00 P.M. on election day if he/she should become physically disabled or shall be absent from the Township because of sickness or death in the family which has occurred at a time which has made it impossible to apply for an absent voter ballot by the statutory deadline (MCL 168.759b).

NOTICE OF CLOSE OF REGISTRATION

CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF BROWNSTOWN 

SPECIAL  ELECTION OF NOVEMBER 7, 2017

LAST DAY TO REGISTER


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a Special Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.  The last day on which persons may register with the appropriate City/Township Clerk to be eligible to vote at the foresaid election, is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2017.  If you currently are not registered to vote or have changed your address, you may do so in the following manner:

In Person:
  • At your City/Township Clerk’s Office or at the Wayne County Clerk’s Office during their normal business hours Monday through Friday.
  • At any Secretary of State Branch offices located throughout the state during normal business hours.
  • At the specified agency for clients receiving services through the Family Independence Agency, the Department of Community Health, Michigan Jobs Commission and some offices of the Commission for the Blind.
  • At the military recruitment offices for persons enlisting in the armed forces.
By Mail:
  • By obtaining and completing a Mail-In Voter Registration Application and forwarding it to the election official as directed on the application by the close of registration deadline. Mail-In voter registration applications may be obtained from the Department of State website here or by contacting your local Clerk’s Office.
QUALIFICATIONS: A citizen of the United States and resident of the City/Township, who is at least 18 years of age and has lived in the State of Michigan, resident of the City/Township for at least 30 days prior to November 7, 2017.

The last day to register to vote for the Gibraltar School District Special Election and the Taylor School District Special Election to be held Tuesday, November 7, 2017, is Tuesday, October 10, 2017.

In said Special Election, the following are summaries of the proposal wording to be voted on in each of the school districts specified below:


NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the following proposals shall also be voted on:
   
GIBRALTAR SCHOOL DISTRICT:
SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT BOND PROPOSITION
This proposal, if approved by the electors will allow the Gibraltar School District to borrow $24,405,000.00 and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds, in one or more series, for the purpose of paying for the costs of remodeling, equipping, furnishing, reequipping and refurnishing, enhancing safety and security, acquiring and installing technology infrastructure and equipment; furnishing and equipping  an addition to a school building; and preparing, developing and improving sites at school buildings and other facilities.

The maximum numbers of years any series of bonds may be outstanding, exclusive of refunding, is not more than twenty years. The estimated millage that will be levied to pay the proposed bonds the first year is 2.24 mills ($2.24 per $1,000 of taxable value) for an estimated total of 6.83 mills for the 2018 debt levy which is an estimated -0- mill increase over the 2017 debt levy. The estimated simple average annual millage that will be required to retire the bonds is 2.42 mills annually ($2.42 per $1,000 of taxable value).

TAYLOR SCHOOL DISTRICT:
OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

This renewal proposal, if approved by the electors, will allow the Taylor School District to continue to levy the number of operating mills required for the School District to receive revenues at the full per pupil foundation allowance permitted by the State of Michigan.

The School District is requesting 18 mills ($18.00 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation), for a ten year period (2018-2027). If approved and levied, it would provide estimated revenues to the School District of $11,988,269.00 during the 2018 calendar year, to be used for general operating purposes.
