Planning

The Planning Commission provides community leadership on local planning and development policy.  The Commission is an appointed body that advises the Township Board on planning matters.

The Planning Commission is responsible for:

  • Reviewing and approving development plans for compliance with Township ordinances, or in some instances, making recommendations to the Township Board.
  • Preparing the Township’s Master Plan
  • Making recommendations to the Board of Trustees for zoning ordinance amendments.

Meetings

The Commission tentatively meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month, at 6:00 p.m., in the Brownstown Township Hall, 21313 Telegraph Road (unless otherwise noted).

Membership Information

  • Consists of seven members who are appointed by the Board of Trustees upon a recommendation from the Township Supervisor. One of the commissioners serves as a liaison to the Board of Trustees and another to Zoning Board of Appeals.
  • Term: 3 years, ends December 21
  • Annual Stipend: Members $20 per meeting; Chairperson $25 per meeting
