The Brownstown Police Department is currently staffed with 31 full-time sworn officers.  The department is comprised of two divisions: uniformed patrol and investigative/support services.  The uniformed patrol division consists of the men and women in uniform who patrol the community and respond to calls for service, provide preventative patrol, enforce state and local laws and perform traffic enforcement.  The 911 dispatch center is staffed 24/7 by civilian dispatchers.  The dispatch center takes calls for both the police and fire departments.

The investigative/support services division contains the Detective Bureau, Traffic Bureau, School Liaison and clerical staff.  The Detective Bureau conducts follow up- investigations to complex cases and works with the prosecutor's office preparing those cases for court.  The Traffic Bureau handles serious traffic crash investigations, as well as high misdemeanor and felony traffic cases.  The School Liaison works with students at the Woodhaven School High  and also helps implement community relations programs.  Both divisions are supported by clerical staff.
