Jeffery Watson, Chief of Police
Chief Jeff Watson has been a lifelong resident of Brownstown. He has served his entire public service career here at Brownstown starting as a volunteer Reserve Police Officer in 1987. In 1991 after completing his basic training at Wayne County Regional Police Academy, he was hired as a full-time patrol officer. In 2001 as the Country was reeling from the September 11th attacks, he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant where he served until his promotion to Lieutenant in 2016. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 2017 and was appointed Chief of Police on August 1st 2020. Chief Watson has had many roles in the agency including Field Training Officer, Firearms Training Coordinator, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Honor Guard Commander, and is serving as the Chair of the Shared Information Network Consortium. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Colorado State University, is a 2002 graduate of the Eastern Michigan University’s School of Police Staff and Command, and recently graduated from the 279th session of the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Chief Watson is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, the Wayne County Chiefs Association and serves on the Michigan Municipal League Law Enforcement Action Forum. Chief Watson resides in Brownstown with his wife Ann. They enjoy the outdoors, and time with their children and grandchildren in their off time.
